The Extent Of The Charitable Work Of The DeVos Family Finally Revealed

It does not matter which side of the political spectrum an individual classifies themselves as the huge contributions made to charity by the DeVos family should be admired in the same way I look upon these contributions. Before I explore the charitable giving of Dick DeVos individually, I believe it is important to make sure we all understand the high level of philanthropic work the DeVos family has undertaken as a whole; the estimated fortune of the family that established and still operates the AmWay Group stands at more than $5 billion, of which it has been reported an amazing $1.33 billion in charitable donations has been provided by the extended DeVos family.

I believe we should look closely at the latest report on the philanthropic giving of Dick DeVos and his wife Betsy that examines the 2015 giving of the couple in terms of their philanthropy. In a hearing for her nomination as Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos revealed she and her husband had given around $5.3 million in campaign contributions during the Presidential campaign of 2016; Dick DeVos and his wife have provided over $11 million to charitable causes in 2015 and this level of giving has been a constant for the couple as the reports I have read detail a lifetime level of giving for Dick and Betsy DeVos as a couple reaching over $130 million.

The Dick and Betsy DeVos Family Foundation is well known for the level of support I have seen it provide for education reform causes and I was pleased to see over $3 million in funding was provided for educational causes over the course of 2015. I believe Dick DeVos is looking to spread his philanthropic work across a wide range of groups, including a $50,000 donation given to the Compass College of Cinematic Arts in Grand Rapids provided in 2013; the couple has not given a detailed list of the charitable groups they supported in 2015, but their work is admired by myself and many others around the U.S. who support their attempts to improve the lives of people across Michigan and the world as a whole.

The career of Dick DeVos has taken many different turns, including his first major role with AmWay in 1986 that saw him oversee the expansion of the foreign markets department of the group with a ten fold increase in sales over a six year period. In the mid 1990s, I was pleased to see Dick DeVos become the President and CEO of AmWay and undertake a major revamp of the group that saw a major restructuring of the group to make sure it was prepared for an evolving business landscape in the 21st century.
